Crawfordsville

Mrs. Nellie D Conrad, 96, Crawfordsville, passed away Friday, March 13 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital.

She was born August 3, 1923, in Glasgow, Ky., to Alfred V. “Bun” and Maggie (Richey) Elmore. She married William Orville Conrad on May 28, 1949 in Rockville. He preceded her in death in 2007.

Nellie will be remembered for her 45 years as a Pink Lady at Culver and St. Clare Hospitals. She served for many years as a school crossing guard in Crawfordsville. She also worked for seven years at RR Donnelley. She helped start the Christian Nursing Service and Well Baby Clinic; received the Golden Apple Award; was a member of the WW I Auxiliary; was a 1941 graduate of Crawfordsville High School; and was a Teacher Friend Volunteer for the Crawfordsville School Corporation. Although Nellie’s Mother died tragically at the age of 23, Maggie’s three young children lived successful and productive lives. They were raised by their father and all lived well into their 90’s.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, loving husband Orville, sister Mollie Cooper, brother James H. Elmore, Aunt Dannie Elmore, and nephew Dennis Elmore.
