Loraine C. (Coons) Burns

Loraine Burns, 97, of Sacramento, California, previously of Crawfordsville, passed away on May 12, 2019. She was born on August 28, 1921, in Montgomery County, Indiana to Elmer and Flossie (Parks) Coons.

Loraine graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1939. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Crawfordsville since 1932. She was a loving mother and homemaker. Loraine was active in her children’s lives, loved reading everything in print, and was an avid Indiana University basketball fan. One of her prized possessions was a personal letter from IU coach Bobby Knight.

She is survived by a son, Terry (Kathy) Burns of Indianapolis, Indiana; a daughter, Diane (Nancy Sullivan) O’Rourke of Sacramento, California; three grandchildren, Tim ( Kate) O’Rourke of Pleasant Hill, California; Patrick ( Ana) O’Rourke of Sacramento, California; and Abigail ( Josh) Cappel of Indianapolis, Indiana; and four great grandchildren Ryan, Conor, Evelyn, and Rowan. Loraine was also “Mom” to a foreign exchange student in 1968, Liza Guglielmetti (Gino) Baptiston of San Paulo, Brazil.

Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, two infant daughters, Beverly and Joyce; two sisters, Lois Johnson and Louise McAnulty.

Living on South Water Street in Crawfordsville for 66 years, Loraine’s door was always open to relatives, friends, neighbors, and her children’s friends. She was a member of the Culver Hospital Nurse’s Aide devoting much of her time even during World War II. She was also involved in the work of the Crawfordsville High School Alumni Association.

Visitation will be held at Sanders-Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St, Crawfordsville on
Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Her funeral will be on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00 am at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Grant Avenue Cemetery.
