Enid Lucille “Lucy” Simpson passed into her heavenly home Wednesday, June, 12, 2019.

I Corinthians 15: 55 & 57 “Where, O death is your victory? Where, O death is your sting? But thanks be too God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

She was born October 11, 1933 to Perry Arthur Sr. and Florence Ellen (Brown) Hockersmith in Advance, Indiana. She graduated from New Market High school in 1951. She then graduated from Home Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 with a Registered Nursing degree. She began working at Culver Union Hospital then moving to the present St. Franciscan Hospital, retiring in 2000. She was a caregiver to many.

She married Austin Merle Simpson August 26, 1956 at Freedom Baptist Church. He preceded her in death August 22, 2013. She was a member of Browns Valley Christian Church. She loved being with her family, gardening, reading, cooking, and was a fierce card player. She loved to travel with her loving husband visiting all fifty states, as well as Canada. .

She is survived by four daughters, Sallie (Russell) Hester of rural Ladoga, Peggy (Bradley) Grayson of New Market, Patti (James) McCollum, and Polly (Larry) Rhoads, both of rural Crawfordsville; a son, Brad (Ellen) Simpson of New Market; eleven grandchildren, Brian (Megan) Hester, Todd (Morgan) Hester, Brook (Clay) Jones, Brandon (Wendi) Grayson, Debbie (Dennis O’Bryan) Hamilton, Kayla Rhoads, Lacey (Chris) Ogle, Kristopher Rhoads, Austin and Elijah Simpson, and Thomas (Karlie Harwood) Lowman; eleven great-grandchildren, Hailey, Hannah, Sawyer, Sydney, Archer, Audri, Keaton, Julien, Jethro, Jericho, and Tad; a sister Elizabeth (Donald) Simpson of Crawfordsville, two brothers, Darrell (Barbara) Hockersmith of Colorado and James Michael (Glenda) Hockersmith of Alabama; and 3 sister-in-laws Lola “Sissy” Shermer, Carolyn Simpson, both of Crawfordsville, and Virginia Simpson of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin; her parents; and two brothers, Basil and Perry Arthur Jr. “Icky” Hockersmith.

Visitation will be at Browns Valley Christian Church, 9011 IN 47 in Crawfordsville on Sunday, June 16, 2019 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm. The funeral service will be Monday, June 17, 2019 at 10:00 am at Browns Valley Christian Church with Pastors David Finch and Brandon Grayson officiating. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Browns Valley Christian Church.
